Lye is a caustic, alkaline chemical that is useful for many purposes. If you know how to make this stuff it can be really helpful; especially if you live off the grid.
Lye has a lot of household purposes such as being used as a laundry detergent, hand soap and cleanser it will also assist in curing food.
People who live in remote areas really do not have a lot of different products laying around so having a hefty supply of this is perfect because it can be use for a lot of different things.
Instead of running to the store to use a batch of this stuff you can make it from wood ash and water. All you need is a bucket and you’re good to go.
The process not only looks really cool but you get to learn how it separates.
However, before you proceed – make sure you follow precautionary measures when you make this stuff. A lot of people are sensitive to lye because it is really harsh. Make sure to wear eye glasses when you make it and keep small animals and pets away during the process.
