Prep Blog Review: Tips For The Vulnerable Preppers

prep blog reviewIt’s one thing to be a (relatively) young man or a woman, prepping for a disaster and a whole other thing to have to take in consideration things such as: small, defenseless children, wobbly knees that prevent you from lifting heavy weights or running for your life, or even worse a chronic or degenerative disease that you have to keep under control.

And because we know that prepping under these circumstances can sometimes be tricky or down right frustrating, we gathered 5 articles that deal with these kind of issues.

1. Am I too old or disabled to bug out and survive?

Old preppers“Am I too old or disabled to bug out and survive?  This is a question that one of my readers asked and another made the remark that no one ever has any prepping info for old or handicapped people.

This has really bothered me so in today’s post, I am going to take this subject head on and throw my thoughts on the subject out there.”

2. Children after SHTF: Liability or Responsibility
children“How many times have you heard the question, “Who would want to bring a child into this world”? I can remember hearing this saying many times throughout my life both in my personal interactions with other people, usually after some disastrous or tragic event, and in popular culture like movies and TV.

The implied rationale behind the question was that life was too hard, too messed up for us to foist that evil upon a poor defenseless child. Who are we to bring a new life into this world that seems so quick to devalue life? Why would you risk raising a child who would almost certainly die in some horrific way?”

3. 6 Natural Diabetes Remedies That Really Work

diabetes“Nearly every year Big Pharma rolls out another diabetes drug, like a car manufacturer introducing the latest model. Often the new model isn’t a bit more effective than the older, safer ones, and even more often the new model hasn’t been safety tested.

This can mean serious health problems for the human guinea pigs who get a prescription. If you’re not keen on being a test-crash dummy, now is the time to tell Big Pharma where to stick its pills.”

Read more on Healthy Contrarian.

4. 2 Simple Spices to Fight Alzheimer Disease

train“Alzheimer’s disease, Alzheimer disease, Alzheimer’s, AD, or whatever you care to call this slow train to nowhere that results in a decrease in the ability to think or remember – the most common form of dementia, can be fought with simple spices – two in fact – that a lot of us have sitting in our spice racks or up in a kitchen cabinet right now.

Most of us don’t think about growing old … and yet it happens every day.  What is also happening is we are forgetting words or misplacing items. Then, further down the track we are forgetting what we just read, or ask the same question over and over, or not remember names when meeting new people (although this one has been an ongoing problem for me – like forever!)  Gulp!”

Read more on Survivor Jane.

5. Dealing With Type II Diabetes – Lessons Learned

diabetes“In early July of this year, I was diagnosed with Type II diabetes. This was a surprise because I lived a healthy lifestyle (or so I thought) and didn’t have a family history of diabetes (or so I thought). This article is about the mistakes I made and lessons I’ve learned.

The bad news is that my A1C level (a measure of blood sugar over the previous 3 months) in July was extremely high, and likely had been for quite a while. The diabetes was beginning to seriously affect my vision, so much so that I had to undergo a series of injections in my eyes (as in needles piercing the wall of my eyeballs and injecting medicine directly into the liquid centers).”

What did you do to prep this week?

I hate those nights… you know those nights when you’re alluded by sleep, it’s right there but for some reason you just can’t catch it. You start to catch it, it’s so close you can almost feel yourself drift off to sleep and then some random thought pops into your mind and it you’re wide awake again.

Well this has been one of those nights, and why I’m up at 4:00 AM posting this…

But I digress… First off I need to thank and give a shout-out to Bill D, Prepper Doc, Tom W, Peter W, Sherry S and Jane W for their donations this week via PayPal....

BaoFeng UV-5R Dual Band Two Way Radio

One of the more difficult parts of preparing is developing a group of like-minded people. Multiple writers have suggested that a solitary person is at a significant survival disadvantage compared to a group (everyone has to sleep, for a simple example).    Reading one text on the subject of “mutual assistance groups,” I found only a sparse list of suggestions, one of which was to attend local emergency response training sessions. As a variation of this, one can teach...

Superyacht Getaway Subs And Luxury Bomb Shelters: The Elite Are The Most Paranoid Preppers Of All

By Michael Snyder – Economic Collapse Blog – reprinted here by permission.

Superyachts-Public-Domain-300x200When it comes to “prepping”, many among the elite take things to an entirely different level.  As you will see below, the elite are willing to pay big money for cutting edge home security measures, luxury bomb shelters and superyacht getaway submarines.

Some of the things that the elite are demanding for their own protection go beyond even what we would see in a James Bond film, and serving the prepping needs of the elite has become a multi-billion dollar business.  Meanwhile, the media outlets that...

10 Must Have Alternative Remedies For Preppers

Natural remediesBy now everybody knows that if a real whopper of a SHTF scenario hits and you rely on doctor’s medications it might get really bad for you. Hospitals and pharmacies and prescription drug stores will be the first things looted right after food stores because of the hoards of the ravaging ‘sub-human’ elements of our species.

So you should try to maintain a backup supply of your prescription drugs or any other medication or equipment necessary for your health survival. Often this is difficult because doctors or pharmacies don’t like to go out more than a month in advance on prescription writing.

Fortunately, people have been surviving their health problems for centuries without the benefits of modern pharmaceuticals or complex clinical treatments.

One reason, of course, is that they weren’t poisoning us so intensely with toxic chemicals, GMO Frankenfoods, deadly environmental pollutions, and generally lethal diets and prescription drugs with more side effects to kill you than your original ailment, that in bitter irony all conspire to come around full circle to perpetuate the vast corrupt-for-profit fraud of ‘modern’ health care in the first place!

The way they did it back in the days, and even to this day, was to rely on ‘Elixirs’ or ‘Magic Potions’ and other more natural cure-all remedies, that were more or less based on herbs and other organic compounds.

In the Old West there were traveling salesmen selling bottles of ‘Dr. Good’ which consisted of nothing more than water with shot of grain alcohol and a pinch of opium or cocaine–none of which were controlled substances back then. This gave a quick ‘buzz’ of temporary well-being which, of course, led to habit forming addictions, and repeat profits for the vendors.

That was also the beginning of ‘network marketing’ and mail order catalogues and advertising. It all started with trying to make people feel good. Later, with the Chinese coming in as railroad labor, useful oriental herbal remedies and compounds were introduced as more ‘serious’ treatments and cures.

Big Pharma versus Mother Nature’s Remedies

Today these natural plants and biological compounds are often the same substances from which modern pharmaceutical drugs are derived with only slight molecular ‘modifications’ to allow them to patent and profit from them.

Big Pharma can never really duplicate or improve that much upon nature without creating additional side effect risks because there are other factors and natural ingredients in the original substance which create a synergistic effect that is superior to the pharmacy knock offs.

Aspirin, for example, is derived from the bark of the willow tree and is hard to improve on. That’s why you see some animals, like goats, sometimes chewing on the inside of the bark when they get a headache.

Actually there are so many natural cure remedies that you would almost have to become an herbologist or botanist and maybe a few other ‘ists’ to know all the important knowledge on the subject. After all, Chinese, and Indian alternative medicine has been around for thousands of years. But a select few remedies seemed to dominate in many venues and purposes.

Big Pharma and their sycophant for-profit motivated medical doctors usually ‘dis’ alternative medicine and cures as old ‘wives tales’. And for their obviously greedy reasons, they’ll often vilify natural remedies and even vitamins and minerals.

The AMA and Big Pharma are such a regrettably powerful force of control over our lives that they can have practitioners and practitioners of alternative medicine sanctioned, sued, and sentenced if these people don’t exercise ’caution’ in their ’work’.

Big Pharma even managed to change the term from ’alternative’ to ’complimentary’ because in their avaricious totalitarian mentality there IS NO ‘alternative’ to conventional medicine. Research the controversy over Red Yeast Rice, for instance, to learn how nefarious Big Pharma, their hired gun lobbyists, and the FDA are when it comes to tried and true natural substance competition.

Since the practicing of medicine includes prescribing medications and is required licensing by law, complimentary medicine practitioners cannot legally treat patients by prescribing anything to heal or cure your ailment, especially if you are getting paid for it.

So anything herein, of course, is not intended to be any kind of directions for ‘treatment’ or prescription by definition of medical practice. It’s merely information about what other people are doing in and of their own personal right of free market consumption of legal substances.

10 Remedies Any Prepper Should Always Have

Again, there are many good substances to have in your medical cache when convenient commercial supplies don’t exist anymore.

But the following natural remedies/cures were chosen because of their overall popularity, benefits, and their multi-purpose applications, which cover a wide variety of problems. So we don’t want to call them ‘basic’ items. These are the minimum items you should stock up on because they are the best ones out there:

1. Apple Cider Vinegar

apple cider vinegarAlthough ACV has been around a long time, the popularity has really increased only in the last couple of years. Bragg organic raw unfiltered un-pasteurized is the one you usually see in big stores that carry multiple brands of vinegar.

Lately it has been ‘flying’ off the shelves and more places carry it. Of course then the price went up as would be expected, but you can make your own if you have an organic apple tree. ACV proponents claim it is one of the healthiest substances in the world to consume daily with many amazing ‘cure-all’ benefits.

Everything from digestive disorders, to energy enhancement, to cancer prevention. Taken before meals, it even helps with weight loss! Also, ACV is one of those ‘100 uses’ miracle products. It has topical applications from eye drops to anti-itch treatment and many other 1st aid uses.

One of the best daily tonics taken 1st thing in the morning is a glass of distilled water with a tablespoon of Bragg ACV, a tablespoon of raw organic honey, 1/2tsp. of baking soda, 1tsp of organic blackstrap molasses, and 1tsp of lemon juice.

This daily drink right before or with meals even helps weight loss! This elixir also encourages proper balance of your body’s PH. Studies have shown that cancer cannot maintain itself in a low acidic body chemistry. You can add a shot of concentrated organic cherry juice or other for ‘flavor’, but it doesn’t taste bad once you get used to the tartness.

2. Honey

Honey has been the ‘food of the Gods’ since the dawn of history. The ancient Egyptians revered it as such and there are many cures in their medicinal archives which include honey in the ingredients.

There is much interesting research out there on the benefits and various uses of honey and it easily replaces refined sugar if you have a ‘sweet tooth’ as a much healthier alternative. Honey also has 1st aid and topical skin care application benefits that are far superior to toxic cosmetic treatments.

But the caveat is that the honey you use must be natural raw organic un-pasteurized honey, otherwise there are no complete health benefits processed versions. Raw honey is thicker and even almost solid in cooler weather where commercialized honey is more liquid.

This is more expensive than regular honey but well worth it. If money is less important than your physical well-being, get yourself raw Manuka honey, which has been analyzed to have amazing all around health benefits including anti-bacterial properties rivaling prescription antibiotics for topical wound dressing but it also happens to be one of the best honeys for maintaining probiotic balance in your stomach/intestines.

3. Organic Garlic

garlic If you could only have one herb/spice, this would have to be it (although onions, imho, would be the default choice). Garlic also goes way back to antiquity and garlic wasn’t picked for the main remedy against vampires for nothing.

If there’s anything that enhances food flavor or improves health better, it’s yet to be discovered. There’s too many benefits to list here that range from exceptional anti-viral and anti-bacterial properties to maintaining healthy blood cholesterol levels to treating type 2 diabetes.

But it is considered almost a universal cure and prophylaxis treatment. Garlic is easy to grow and store and pickle. Eating it daily will also enhance your immune system.

4. Coconut Oil

Many of us didn’t get ‘turned on’ to coconut oil until recently as it started popping more up at the larger grocery stores. Now there are several brands. All many of us knew about coconuts was that monkeys flung them at tourists, they tasted good shredded on coconut cream pies, and that we shouldn’t stand under a coconut tree on a windy day.

Other cultures, however, have utilized coconuts as main staple for ages. Pure organic virgin coconut oil is said to have amazing ‘miracle cure’ properties for everything from weight loss to preventing and even curing heart disease.

It can be used in all kinds of foods and by itself as a cooking oil and is one of the best skin ‘creams’ you can put on your face and hands. And it even works as a gun lube oil in a pinch. It can be stored easily as it does not spoil at room temperature and solidifies below 76 degrees.

Other pure organic oils like olive oil, of course, should also be stocked for particular health reasons. There are other very beneficial oils such as macadamia oil, flaxseed oil, walnut, and even avocado oils, although pricier and harder to find in stores.

5. Aloe Vera

aloe This is considered a tried and proven must have healing plant that usually is associated with skin treatments, especially burns, but it is far more versatile than just that. Make salves and balms from a combination of coconut oil, aloe, and honey for amazing skin rejuvenation properties.

And health food stores have been selling organic cold pressed aloe juice as an all-around tonic/elixir for a long time. Aloe Vera is easy to grow, and even pass off as an ornamental house plant. Have as many plants growing or seeds for the future as you can.

6. Bergamot Juice

The best kept secret of the bergamot fruit tree from Calabra Italy is out! This juice and especially the extract sold in over the counter solutions is gaining in popularity to be currently the best remedy for controlling your cholesterol levels without prescription drugs that will eventually harm you.

It is also a good source of vitamins and is said to have super anti-oxidant and other unique properties that enhance well-being and promote anti-aging. Exemplified by all the dancing and bike riding you see 100 year old Italians doing in Calabra!

7. Organic Peppers

red peppersAll peppers, especially hot ones, are one of the most healthy prophylaxis foods for disease prevention. The more you can handle, the better. cayenne is a must have for a variety of reasons.

It’s also a great topical skin wound treatment as it eases the pain and immediately helps to stop bleeding and promote healing while providing anti-bacterial properties.

It is a nerve pain related treatment and can be used for arthritis pain (dilute a strong cayenne extract in DMSO for a great deep penetration topical rub muscle pain reliever) and could even forestall the heart attack event if you pop down a couple cayenne gel caps if you think you are about to have one. Cayenne is also a tasty spice that gives you a pop of energy after you eat it.

8. Steam Distilled Water

The dirty little secret nobody wants to mention is that virtually ALL water that most of us come in contact with or drink has something wrong with it. Even so called ‘purified’ bottled water is not necessarily that clean. A lot of the ’purity’ depends on the filtration system. All are not created equal or perfect. The absolute purest water is steam distilled water. There is nothing in it but the H2O.

But the benefit are superior to regular water. Distilled water is a better solvent than other waters, especially ‘hard’ water. It cleans all by itself, especially the skin, without cleaning additives. It has a different ion structure than non-distilled water that attracts heavy metals and other toxins in your system and takes them out of your body when it goes through your urinary process! Essentially an organic cleansing also known medically as Chelation treatment.

Rainwater used to be a ’naturally distilled water until the environment became so polluted. Now rain is ‘dirtied’ and poisoned before it hits the ground. A lot of people have gained significant health improvements by drinking only distilled water, including using it for tea and coffee. That’s why you see it carried in most grocery stores these days. It makes sense.

You know you are getting the purest poison free water, and it also is an ‘elixir’! It’s also pretty easy to make your own in a bad SHTF scenario. If you drink it every day make sure you take a good vitamin mineral supplement also because it also flushes some of those out of your system. Check out the information on steam distilled water for health benefits.

9. Flax, Chia and Other Super Seeds

chia, flaxWho ever thought that that cute little ‘fur’ sprouts -which are super edible also – growing on those chia pets we used to buy, was one of the great super foods of the world?

Chia seeds are considered the perfect organic food because they contain too many benefits to list here. And who would believe that what appears to be just another ‘weed’ with pretty blue flowers would be a natural health superstar?

Everybody knows about flax seeds and that they are a super source of dietary fiber but studies have also shown that organic raw flax seed husks which are wrapped around the seed pods are integral to considerably reducing the risk of some cancers, lung, and cardiovascular diseases.

New studies are showing that the flax husks can help prevent colon, breast, and prostate cancers. They contain Omega 3 AMA and lignans which are inhibitors of cancer cell incidence and growth. The entire plant seed pods also contain anti-oxidants and other compounds to help prevent heart disease and diabetes among others.

Then there’s hulled hemp seeds which are sold in stores and are loaded with vitamins and minerals and have a higher level of Omega 6 and protein. But it’s best to try to find organic seeds if possible. All these seeds blend in well with almost any meal. A tablespoon of each in your morning steel cut oatmeal along with a teaspoon each of honey, coconut oil, and organic butter, with a little goat milk, is a super healthy way to start the day. And it tastes great!

The seeds are relatively cheap because they grow quickly and easily anywhere regular grass or weeds thrives, requires little maintenance, and keeps coming back every year. These truly are ‘the food of the Gods’. If you plan to grow your own make sure you study more about this and harvest/prepare them correctly for maximum benefits.

10. Hydrogen Peroxide

H2O2 is just another oxygen molecule added to the water molecule. This means it falls into the ‘oxidizer’ category of substances. There’s tons of information out there on its health uses and used carefully it can be taken internally and is a good stable for topical disinfectant purposes. H2O2 is used, mostly in other countries, as a specific cure for many systemic illnesses including cancer.

Like the chemistry of ACV and PH in your body, it also changes the chemical nature of the body by providing an extra-oxygenated environment where cancer and other diseases cannot grow. Now we’re not talking about the 3% stuff at the stores in the dark plastic bottles you use for mouthwash and minor skin irritations. W

e’re talking about 35% FOOD grade, which is NOT the same. The 35% grade can actually burn your skin if you put too much in one spot. But you can dilute a drop or so depending upon the requirement in a glass of water and you have a prophylaxis or potential cure.

With the surge of organic, natural products natural ‘elixirs’ are coming back as people get more fed up (no pun intended) with the high prices of Big Pharma’s commercial remedies which are as bad or worse than the toxic food we eat that caused most of our sickness to begin with.

There are safe, natural, specific cures for almost every ailment known to man. The prudent self-reliant prepper should explore this wonderful world of healthier and self-sustaining living and expand upon this information at the earliest opportunity.

Alternative off grid medical and health supplies should be a priority prepper effort right after you secure your BOL retreat/shelter situation, ammo stock, and a year’s worth of stored food.

The Get Back Home Urban Survival Kit

Most of you probably have a bug out bag – having a bug out bag is good insurance in the event you are forced to evacuate your home or retreat for some unforeseen reason. It seems most of us are ready to bug out,  but few of us have considered the need to find our way back home if caught away during an emergency.

No doubt, many of you spend a lot of time away from home, with work, school and business sometimes taking you hundreds of miles away from home. Most of the time this isn’t an issue for me, but recently, I’ve had to make several business trips that have taken me...

How To EMP Proof 5 Crucial Systems Of Your Car

EMP carToday, many people believe they can go back to earlier system designs and retrofit modern vehicles to these specifications, as this would be one of the best ways to protect their vehicles in case of an EMP. While this can work in some systems, it is not likely to work in others.

Some older system methods were simply too dangerous or broke down too often, hence the need for motorized or even computer controlled assemblies. But it’s common science that more computers mean more vulnerability during any  EMP scenario.

What would be the best choice then?

Read this article, then learn how to replace the parts for the most affected five systems of your car as opposed to changing the systems altogether.

What Is the Most EMP Resistant Car?

Aside from the oldest vehicles that used a crank instead of an electronic ignition system, your best options will include older vehicles with as few computerized, motorized, or electronic parts as possible. Sadly, even these vehicles can be destroyed even after being retrofitted.

So, if you are interested in having a functional car outside of ground zero created by an EMP event, there are many cars sitting in junk yards that can be suitably retrofitted. Sadly, there are many vehicles that were turned over during the “Cash for Clunkers” program that could have been retrofitted.

If any of these vehicles haven’t been crushed or completely destroyed, you will have to do an enormous amount of work just too legally put them back on the road.

On the other hand, if your goal is to create a viable EMP proof car and you have the time, money, and patience to make the car roadworthy, then you can truly start your search for pre-’80’s cars in the local scrap and junk yards. If you look at modern cars, it can be very easy to forget just how close they are to the roadway.

While this may not be of much consequence now, low suspension systems can cause all kinds of problems in off road situations. This is just one of many reasons why you may not necessarily want to spend a fortune in time, effort, and money on EMP proofing a conventional vehicle. Instead, you may want to look at ATVs and other off-road vehicles that can be used for bugging out.

But can you make the car system work after an EMP or you just have to stash them for a further replacement? Let’s see how to EMP proof some of the most important systems of your car and what parts to stash for future times.

5 Crucial Systems and How to EMP Proof Them

The Computers

It is more than obvious that the computers will be the most affected part by an EMP. The best way to prevent it to disable it, dismantle it, and get rid of it any way you can.

Store any module that you cannot do without in a Faraday cage. Be prepared to spend several hundred to several thousand dollars on the parts plus tools required to calibrate the computers and sensors after they are installed.

The Electrical System

old carThe electrical system is going to be one of the most affected car systems by an EMP. As long as there are motorized starters, and other systems within the vehicle, it is virtually impossible to eliminate the electrical system.

You are best served by learning how to replace each part if needed, and then retrofit anything that is currently integrated into a computerized system. Your best options include studying cars from the 70’s since these vehicles had a number of electric devices, but not computer systems that are the most vulnerable to EMP blasts.

If you want to add some parts to your car survival stockpile, store extra wire for the harness, an alternator, remote starter, wire continuity tester, extra batteries, independent battery charger, extra belts for the alternator, extra fuses.

The Ignition System

Even though older vehicles were started up by using a crank system, it is not necessarily a good idea to follow this path for EMP proofing your own vehicle. Among other things, crank systems often led to all kinds of injuries that will hamper your ability to survive in a post crisis world. You will be best served by leaving the ignition system as intact as possible.

If you can find a way to eliminate computer sensors and systems instead, go ahead and do so. This includes keyless starting systems as well as ones that utilize microchip embedded keys. There are many other ways to protect your vehicle from theft or unauthorized use without resorting to computer based systems that will completely disable an otherwise functional car after an EMP.

Store away at least one spare starter and extra battery wires and terminals.

The Emission System

At the current time, it is not legal to remove devices such as the catalytic converter, EVAP system, EGR valve and other emission systems parts. But you can, and should know how to remove them if they are damaged during an EMP blast.

It is up to you to decide if you want to sacrifice some of the fuel efficiency created by the emissions system or if you just want to get rid of it for the sake of avoiding additional complexities.

It is also important to study computer and fuse integration schematics so that you know which parts to cut out or disable once the emission devices are removed from the system.

Since manufacturers do not want these devices removed, rest assured there are likely to be redundancies in the fuse and computer systems that will prevent the vehicle from running if appropriate signals are not received from the emission control devices. Even if you did everything else right, this one tiny thing can prevent an otherwise functional vehicle from starting up and running.

You should store any parts that you intend to replace if they happen to be damaged by an EMP. You should also store away extra exhaust pipe in case you decide to get rid of the catalytic converter.

The Cooling System

Every part of the cooling system is absolutely necessary for proper vehicle function. For example, without oil and an oil pump, the engine will overheat and seize. By the same token, radiator fans and the rest of the cooling system are all vital no matter whether the vehicle is operating in cold temperatures or warmer ones.

You need to store thermostats, oil pumps, radiator fans. Consult the shop manual for your vehicle to find out what parts are computer controlled. Look for older designs that do not rely on computers and see if you can retrofit these elements.

You may need to work with a professional machinist to make new parts that can be exchanged for those now being controlled via a computer system. When it doubt or searching for ideas, look at the cooling systems for very early internal combustion vehicles. Follow their path of evolution until you arrive at a balance that safeguards the cooling system and still delivers sufficient cooling for your vehicle.

Never forget that modern vehicle engines also tend to run hotter than engines in older vehicles. Make sure that you know the temperature ranges you are dealing with so that you can design suitable and durable alterations.

If you are planning to EMP proof a hybrid or electric vehicle, you will be faced with a challenging if not impossible task for every system in the vehicle. For cooling systems, you will need to find some way to keep the battery packs cool without relying on computer systems. You can try using basic electronic components and conventional switches that you control manually from inside the vehicle.

electric car engineBe very careful when working on any part of a hybrid or electric vehicle because their internal systems have very high voltages that can easily kill you. If  you must work on this type of vehicle, always consult with a mechanic certified to repair and adapt these vehicles.

Unfortunately, simply reading the shop manual for these vehicles and trying to transfer skills learned with conventional vehicles may not always be successful, let alone safe.

As for doors and windows, if your vehicle has power windows, doors, and seat belts, get rid of them immediately. Do everything you can to retrofit to crank handles for the windows, keyed (not microchip keys) locks, and manual seat belts.

This may well save your life if you are ever trapped in a vehicle during a crash as well as during an EMP. Without a question, if there is a place in a motor vehicle where computers pose a serious and constant hazard to occupants, this is it!

As long as you retrofit your vehicle to manual systems, you will not need to store away special parts. In fact, even if an inner door handle breaks off, a bit of duct tape and a nail will work just as well the way electronic safety systems, doors, and windows are set up.

While it may be a tiny bit inconvenient to use manual systems, they will always work perfectly even if there is no power to run a motor.

As you see, most EMP proofing for vehicles involves finding workarounds for motors and computer systems. In these days, you will find that conventional cars can still be converted, however it is much harder than it would be with an older vehicle.

Overall, you will also find that it is essentially pointless to try and EMP proof a hybrid or electric vehicle. The best thing you can do with these vehicles is try to at least return to manual doors, seat belts, and windows.

At the very least, you won’t be trapped inside the vehicle with no way to get out. Failing that, never drive off in a hybrid vehicle unless you have something to break the windows within easy reach.

I Can No Longer Give Advice Or Answer General Prepping Questions Via Email…

Running this site is taking up to 12-16 hours per day with editing articles, moderating comments, and all the other stuff associated with running a site this large – over the past year the amount of email that I’m receiving daily has become unmanageable, and I can’t mentally or physically keep up with it all.

Last month I received over 4,000 emails (over 100 per day – everyday) with the bulk of those readers asking for advice and general prepping questions, I’ve tried to answer as many...

Growing A Prepper Group Through Teaching Radio Communications Part Three: Building an Inexpensive Shortwave (HF) Ham Radio Station With EMP Protection

radio article pic 1

Vacuum Tube Radios

This is an entry in our non-fiction writing contest by PrepperDoc

When you start building your prepper ham radio station, the VHF/UHF part is easy — Baofeng handi-talkies are cheap and work adequately, especially when combined with a simple YAGI antenna or a small amplifier. You can even easily make a cross-band repeater using two of them. But shortwave (HF) ham radio–really useful for longer-range communications– is more of a problem. There simply isn’t any comparably cheap option. This article will explore some available alternatives for...

The Gluten Free Survival Stockpile

Gluten free stockpileAs a person who lives a gluten-free lifestyle out of necessity, let me tell you that I faced a few challenges in the beginning. I only learned that I was gluten-intolerant a couple of years ago and I had to take a serious look at my stockpile. Anything with grains had to go. That includes flour and anything that has flour in it; breads, gravies, many commercial seasoning mixes, pasta; it seemed my stockpile diminished to practically nothing.

I didn’t discard it because my family can still eat all of that but I needed to take a serious look in order to ensure that I have enough stockpiled for myself as well. Most gluten-free commercial foods are expensive but I’ve found ways around it in my everyday life. In my prepping closet, though, I’ve made a few adjustments.

Flour replacements

corn starchThere are many different flours that you can store in place of wheat flour. Unfortunately, most of those flours have a bit of a shorter shelf life than wheat flour and they’re different to cook with.

I have several different recipes that I use depending on whether I’m baking bread, cookies, cakes or cornbread. I suggest stocking the basic flours: almond, tapioca, cornmeal, rice flour, potato starch and maybe a bean flour.

For thickening,  I keep cornstarch for milk-based products and arrowroot powder for non-dairy recipes because dairy tends to make arrowroot a bit slimy. Usually I just use cornstarch. It’s cheap and easy to store because a little bit goes a long way.

I also have bulk storage of oats (not quick cook) because it’s good to eat, it works as a binder in many recipes and it’s even good for your skin. Also, oat flour is great for many recipes including pancakes.

Pasta replacements

One of the first restrictions that I really felt was the absence of pasta. I was never much of a bread or cake eater, but I did love pasta. Back even a couple of years ago, there weren’t many gluten-free pasta options, at least not ones that tasted decent. Instead, I stocked bulk rice.

Over the last year or so, the major brands have developed pasta that tastes extremely similar to wheat pasta, due to the increase in gluten intolerance (don’t even get me started on my suspicions behind the cause of THAT!).

At any rate, I have now stockpiled gluten-free pasta in place of regular pasta – my family eats it and likes it, so there’s no need to store anything other than gluten-free pasta.

Bread

sour dough starterIn recent months, it’s come to light that the fermentation process involved with creating sourdough bread breaks the gluten strands down to the point that it’s tolerable to Celiacs and people with gluten intolerance.

The jury is still out for some people but I can eat it with no problems. For that reason, I keep a sourdough starter on hand so that I can make it whenever I want to.

Alcohol

If you like to have the occasional cocktail, beer is off the menu. That’s about it, though. Wine, ciders and nearly all distilled alcohols are gluten-free. As a matter of fact, I have yet to find a distilled alcohol that has gluten in it. Feel free to stock your favorite beverage as long as it isn’t beer or malt beverages.

Foods on the go

For quick, light foods, I’ve made my own granola bars and vacuum sealed them so that I have a good source of nutrition already in my bug-out bag, ready to go.

Trail mix is another nutrient-dense food that I’ve added to my stockpile – just be sure to read the label if you’re buying commercial mix. Chex cereals are all gluten-free except for wheat checks so you can stockpile that as part of your trail mix if you want.

Watch your labels

Once I started paying attention to what foods had gluten, I was surprised to learn that it was found in many different foods. Perhaps I should explain exactly what gluten is, so that it will be easier to understand why it’s added to other foods.

Gluten is the protein found in wheat. It’s what gives dough its elasticity and helps to hold the dough together as it bakes into bread, cake, etc. Extra gluten is often added to cake and pastry flours to make the product lighter and fluffier.

Gluten is also added to many commercial spices and seasonings to keep it from clumping together. But wait – I’m not done yet. Gluten is also used as a thickener and a binder to keep ingredients from separating. Ketchup is a good example of this. Oh, and soy sauce is off limits, too. The first ingredient is usually wheat.

Well, at least we still have ice cream. Or not. Flour is often used in ice cream recipes as a thickener so check your labels before buying your favorite chocolate chunk or butter pecan.

Other foods that you need to watch out for include cereals, condiment, French fries, chicken wings and even non-edible stuff such as cosmetics including lip gloss and toothpaste.

The one thing that I did learn through this experience is that all of the foods that are actually good for me – fruits, veggies, meats, eggs, milk, etc. – are all still perfectly open to me. The substitutions that I’ve had to make were all good ones. Even when I use a substitute flour, it’s a nut flour and still better for me than nutrient-poor white flour.

As soon as I got the hang of it and learned to start checking labels, stockpiling gluten free foods became a piece of gluten-free cake!

The bottom line of it is that stockpiling gluten free is actually a healthy choice regardless of whether you have a gluten problem or not. It pretty much eliminates foods that you eat on a regular basis that are bad for you.

For the first six months, I lived on fruit, veggies and meat because I didn’t understand how many foods had gluten in them. I felt cheated when everybody else was eating pizza or pasta but now I’m used to it and healthier for it!

If you have anything to add about gluten free stockpiling or any questions that you’d like me to answer, please speak up in the comment section below.

Children after SHTF: Liability or Responsibility

Written by Pat Henry on The Prepper Journal.

No ratings yet. How many times have you heard the question, “Who would want to bring a child into this world”? I can remember hearing this saying many times throughout my life both in my personal interactions with other people, usually after some disastrous or tragic event, and in popular culture like movies and TV. The Villainization Of Conservatism

False newsIs it just me, or is the news starting to get repetitive? Some shooting happens, the media immediately blames it on conservatives and the NRA, before they even know the name of the perpetrator and then Obama has a speech where he does the same thing.

The same message over and over, with never a retraction when the truth is found out.

Many of these shooters are turning out to be Muslims, but that is never admitted in the liberal mainstream media. After all, admitting that would cause them two problems. It would make it look like the Muslims are something other than innocent victims and it would eliminate liberals’ ability to blame everything on conservatives. After all, as every liberal knows, all gun-toting conservatives are murderers.

At first glance, it would seem that our news media is highly incompetent. After all, consistently blaming the violence on the wrong group of people sure doesn’t make them seem competent. But there’s something deeper going on here; as if it is intentional.

Anyone who doesn’t understand that the news media is fully in bed with the progressive liberal agenda is either a liberal themselves or asleep. While the media has clearly leaned to the left for a couple of decades at least, it hasn’t been until the last few years that they have so clearly become nothing more than the propaganda arm of the progressive liberal movement.

There have been a number of rather troubling accusations come out against the news media lately. For one thing, several of the news agencies have been caught dramatizing events to get the footage they needed for their nightly reports. Then there has been revelation of how much money top news executives have donated to the Democrat Party and Democrat Candidates.

Several reporters have come forward, saying that the White House has threatened them if they tell the truth, and now, there’s a whistleblower who is saying that the news media receives money from the U.S. government and other countries, for putting the news in a favorable light.

With all this going on, it’s hard to believe anything that’s coming out of the mainstream media, yet millions of low information voters still do. Perhaps that’s simply because as long as they are taken care of, they don’t care what else the government does. This leaves the door wide open for the government to get away with a lot of things; some of which might be immoral, if not illegal. The media is supposed to be self-policing, but it’s clear that they aren’t doing that very well either.

There has been a fair amount of information come out; pointing to the fact that Sandy Hook was phony. The whole event was a planned exercise in reacting to an active shooter situation.

When the time came, they brought in the media and the actors, making it seem like an actual shooting event. There’s just one thing… there were no ambulances to take away the kids who had been shot. If kids had been hurt or killed, why weren’t there any ambulances?

Sandy Hook wasn’t the only event that people are saying was staged. There are rumors that 9-11 was, that the Boston bombing was and that several other events which have gripped the country’s attention were staged for political reasons. While I don’t know that any of those rumors are true, I do know that the news media is quick to blame conservatives, regardless of what actually happened.

Time after time, conservatives are being blamed for things that they didn’t do. Take the mass shootings that have been happening in schools and other gun free zones.

screenshot.2015-07-23-3

Almost without exception, the shooters in those incidents have either been registered as Democrats or in the case of perpetrators who are too young to be registered voters, they are from families which are registered as Democrats. But if you ask the average person on the street, they’ll tell you that those are all conservatives.

Why is that happening? Because they are hearing what the news says and there are never any retractions of those statements. When the investigations are concluded and the information comes out that they are liberals, the news media doesn’t report it. They let their initial false narrative stand. Obama is helping this along too, refusing to label killings by radial Muslims acts of domestic terrorism and pushing the narrative that there are more people killed in the United States by right-wing extremism than there are by radical Islam. Uh, what people killed by right-wing extremism? Other than the killing in the black AME church in Charleston, I don’t know of any.

But the facts apparently don’t matter when you’re trying to swing public opinion. As Joseph Goebbels, Hitler’s propaganda minister once said, “If you tell al lie big enough and keep repeating it, people will eventually come to believe it.” Could it be that what we’re seeing is nothing more than a propaganda campaign against conservatives?

The truth of the matter is that conservatives are probably the biggest danger that Obama and his followers can see, to their socialist utopia vision of the United States. In their minds, anyone who stands against them is a terrorist. By that definition, you and I, not those who are out there raping, killing and beheading people, are the terrorists of today.

Yes, this is a ridiculous point of view, but the scary one is that it is the point of view that is being sold to the general public. While the population of the country is roughly equally divided between Democrats and Republicans, the number of true conservatives is lower than the total number of Republicans. The number of conservatives who are truly willing to take a stand for what they believe in, even if it will cost them, is lower than that. All it would take to silence them is a threat by those in power.

Conspiracy or Not?

Don’t believe me? Look at the vast number of people who refuse to speak out against anything PC. If being labeled racist is enough to silence people, how easy will it be to silence them when the alternative is being sent to a concentration camp?

There has been a lot of talk amongst conspiracy theorists on the right, talking about the DHS list of people to arrest and FEMA internment camps. I tend to ignore that. It’s not that I don’t believe that such things are possible, it’s that I’ve heard so many things through the years that I wait until I can see something tangible happening. Even if those things do exist, my talking about them or worrying about them isn’t going to change a thing. That has to wait until the other side takes action first.

But just for a moment, let’s suppose that the conspiracy theorists are right and that Obama’s government is working towards capturing all true conservatives and putting them in those camps. Wouldn’t they need an excuse to take that action? They would have to tell everyone else something. They couldn’t just let it go that X million people have disappeared or that X million people have been arrested. There has to be a reason behind it.

Swiss guns

Before Hitler started rounding up Jews and sending them to the extermination camps, he put them in ghettos. But before that, he turned the people of Germany against them. The opening salvo in his war against the Jews was propaganda. He had to get the people behind him first.

I could show you other examples as well. Hitler wasn’t the only one. Mao did it in China. Stalin did it in Russia. Castro did it in Cuba. Obama is doing nothing more than following a well-documented pattern. Turn the people against the group you want to get rid of, then when you give an excuse for rounding them all up, the people will buy it.

What’s the excuse to lock up conservatives? How about the overwhelming preponderance of evidence that every gun owner is a murderer? What, you don’t think they are? You’re right. But all those liberals out there are convinced of it. Just look at the things they post on social media if you don’t believe me.

Okay, enough of conspiracy theory. Let’s get our feet back on the ground. Look around you, can you tell me any logical reason for the villainization of the right, that Barack Obama, his political cronies and the liberal media are propagating? I can’t either. There seem to be only two options; the conspiracy theorists are right or there is something much more sinister and secretive going on, than even they have imagined.

Obama only has 15 more months to act. He either has to do something in that time period, or he has to declare martial law and suspend the Constitution so that he can remain in office. The match is set to the fuse, all that remains to see is when and how it will blow.
